How To Select the Best Commercial Lighting for Your Business

Commercial lighting isn’t as simple as picking up a lightbulb. When purchasing and installing lighting, many factors must be considered. As a guide to help you achieve the best commercial lighting, we have included the top four elements to consider when planning and installing lighting for your commercial business in Fargo, ND.

Brightness

You should choose a brightness that will promote employee concentration depending on what type of working environment you have. When the commercial lighting fixtures are dim, employees have a hard time seeing and staying focused on their work.

Lighting that is bright enough to cover large areas is necessary for large warehouses. Warehouses tend to have high ceilings, so a small recessed light wouldn’t be able to light up the space as effectively as one with an average ceiling.

Also, make sure not to get anything too bright. Fluorescent bulbs are a good choice because they are comfortable and resemble natural light. However, for most commercial businesses we suggest going with an LED light whenever possible. LED has the best lumens (light output), and is more cost-efficient than other lighting options.

Color

Light sources can be both warm and cool. White light, however, has three distinct categories. The temperature can be cool, warm, or neutral.

Contrary to what many people believe, color temperature is not about the amount of heat being emitted by a lamp, but rather its color level. Higher Kelvin temperatures, such as 3600–5000 K, are considered cool. The temperature is considered warm when it is low, between 2700–3000 K. Cool light has more contrast. Warm light is more visually appealing due to its lower contrast.

Warm light is best suited to retail spaces and stores because it flatters both skin and clothes. Additionally, it makes the entire space look more inviting and comfortable. In contrast, cool lighting gives the impression of space.

Layering

The best solution for commercial spaces is to layer some LED lighting. If you opt for bright lights and install them everywhere, not only will the establishment look stark and potentially less attractive, but it may also cause eye strain. The entire space will have more depth and look more interesting when you layer light sources and then use contrast.

You can do general lighting, which is also known as ambient lighting. Next, you can add accent lighting, then task lighting, and then decorative lighting. You can do this by balancing the lights. Lamps with similar color temperatures should be paired together. You can add some dimmers as well so you can control how much energy is being used.

Quality

As with flooring, there are differences in the quality of lighting. Purchasing quality light features may cost more upfront, but they will last longer, look better, and save you money in the long run.
